The Life story Of Lakhs of Elephant

The life story of elephant you don’t know

                                          -by Vishnu M

Pregnant Elephant dies in Kerala after cracker filled pineapple explodes in her mouth, this is one story of an elephant that you know but what you don't know is the life story of lakhs of elephants. According to world earth day web portal, an estimated around 100 African elephants are killed each day leaving only 4,00,000 remaining. Elephant numbers have dropped by around 62% over the last decade and they could mostly extinct if the poaching is going on at the current pace.

Why elephants are killed? If we can answer this simple question we'll be able to find the root cause of the decline of the elephant, the answer is simple the demand for the ivory made products, elephants teeth are increasing in the international market some skilled artisans can beautifully crave the elephant tusk and they sell it to the illegal market. Identifying and punishing the culprits is only a short term solution to reduce poaching the long-term solution is to eradicate the demand for the ivory products, once the government eradicates the demand of the ivory products there won't be no motive for the poachers to hunt.

The number of elephants killed over the last few years is staggering the poachers use camp axes to cut out the ivory of the elephant and use guns and poisons to kill the elephants. The carcass of the elephant is found near the water bodies as it is evident from the fact that it might have consumed a poisonous food. With corrupt forest watchers, it becomes easy for the poachers to hunt the animal. The poachers see the elephant, not as an animal but as a business value, it can provide them with income if they can take down 2 to 3 elephants since the ivory products are expensive. The wildlife departments and government must find a way to curb the demand of the ivory product, this is not a hunt against the elephants it is a hunt against the ivory when we speak about ivory we cannot leave behind Rhinoceros even they are hunted for their horns .you might have heard news related to poaching in the Kaziranga National Park in Assam relating to Rhinos.

We're destroying the animal habitat that is the reason why see many elephants entering our habitat in search of food. The elephant has the largest brain of any land animal they are smart and empathetic to others but little we know about them. The elephants with tuskers are targeted thus the young elephants are left behind as orphans they spend their lives in captivity. The Asian elephants are well trained that they are used in the circus, the young wild elephants are taken from the forest and it is sold to the civilians who require elephants for their park or temple.

The incident which happened in the silent valley national park is saddening filling the fruits with crackers is usually a method to kill the pig, the elephants poaching is happening in a much faster pace than their population growth if this is the case then the extinction of the elephant is inevitable, once after that, we have to see the elephants only in the textbook. Yesterday I have seen a few tweets where many people associate the poaching of elephants with the literacy rate which Kerala posses, the literacy rate has nothing to do with the poaching but making the people aware of the importance of living peacefully with animal creatures and nature may have a huge impact. poaching is not an incident which is taking place only in Kerala it happening all around the world which we are not aware of.

No thief will steal from a poor man's home but they'll steal in a wealthy house or a bank, why? because they're driven by motive, the motive of becoming rich in the same manner the poachers are driven by the motive of becoming rich by cutting the elephant tusk with their camp axe if the government can break the motive of poachers by punishing all the persons who're involved in the illegal trading of ivory the government may well, find a way to reduce poaching activities.

Earth is not only a place for the humans to live it is a place even for the animals and plants too. The humans, plants and the animals must co-exist together to create a better society. At this high point of extinction, we should develop a mindset to live with nature rather than being driven by economic and personal motives we should make people aware of the importance of the existence of flora and fauna but saddeningly our education system does not prepare a child to learn to live with society and nature but they're preparing them for the job in the competitive a world where mark matters everything.

Now, you have one duty left to do, you can share this post so that other people can also know about the life story of lakhs of elephants which are in threat of facing extinction.
